Review of "The China Story" by Freda Utley

This book attempts to answer the question: who lost China?  I found the book to be a less-entertaining and enlightening version of Whittaker Chambers Witness.  Ms Utley's life was similar to Mr Chamber's in many ways.

Ms Utley tells the story of a State Department that was heavily influenced by members of the Communist Party and the party's sympathizers.  These groups managed to undermine policies that would have kept China from going read.  None this is difficult to believe or surprising after reading Mr Chambers.  An appropriate amount of blame is also reserved for the press and the intellectuals.

An interesting read, but I would read it after Witness.
