I apologize for the light blogging since last week.
We drove up to NJ this weekend for a Jewish-Hindu wedding. The ceremonies combined were about 3 hours long.
The theory of multiculturalism is that when cultures mix, we’re supposed to take the best from each. The result is then, supposed to be, superior.
Instead, two and half hours into the ceremony, I was thinking to myself that the actual result of this multicultural union won’t be a new, better culture. Instead, the result will be a-cultural. The noble traditions that were represented by the bride’s family and the groom’s family will not be represented anymore. If the bride and groom have a child and that child gets married, the child will have no tradition.
I’m not religious, but I’m not looking to move to an atheistic society either. Perhaps trying to combine it all without choosing is the surest path to destroying all.
