The white American middle classes of today may be the most conformist population that ever lived, banking and turning in unison, old and young together, like a school of fish.

Well, he is correct in that most public schools are really private boarding schools where the parents live too. My conclusion is that this observation basically refutes traditional progressive arguments against vouchers or private schooling, and that since school is privatized anyway, there is no reason to link the privatization to geography, which just drives up the cost of living for upper middle class people like us. Matt seems to lean to the conclusion that the solution is to make public schools more mixed class somehow. We’ve been down that path before.

That thing by Robert Kaplan regarding hierarchy is fantastic. I think the common binding force among conservatives of all stripes is an attraction to hierarchy – not just in society, a hierarchy in anything. Science has lost a lot by liberal focus on everything except hierarchy. Here is a wonderful page that deals with hierarchies and organic logic, which I think will appeal to most reactionaries – for some reason that I cannot really fathom. http://www.dichotomistic.com/hierarchies_intro.html

Much as I love the alt-right, no, we’re not “cool”, “hip”, “swinging”, “rad”, or anything else of that ilk.

The left carefully polices the general culture, and makes sure that anything hip and fun (Buzzfeed, the Gawker empire, Obama slow jamming the news, the gossip section of HuffPo, Reddit) is their territory and not ours (Rush getting kicked off Monday Night Football, http://frontpagemag.com/2013/andrew-klavan/the-new-york-times-vs-david-mamet/). Well … I guess there’s always racist jpgs on 4chan and /b/ .
