– Interesting new blog (HT: Second Estate)

Didn’t take long to prove Proph right.

– Auster on the neocons and Egypt.

– Alrenous suggests an experiment that I heartily endorse.

– You should build stuff.

DC is the place to be. Don’t fight it.

– Borepatch on Anarcho-tyranny

– On a related, it appears that facecrime is on the uptick in Britain (HT for the second item: Kalim Kassam).

– There’s nothing quite like the right poem at the right time.

I like that global warming blog post. I had a similar thought a while ago: so what if 3rd world peasants overrun the west? We’ll just move to the third world, better weather anyway.

America is going to die of verbosity. That blog you recommend: consider his second post down.

It tells you that most people are stupid and ignorant. At ridiculous length. And anyway it’s no secret. Pah!

    • Well, I think that’s hardly fair. Eden’s Thaw’s point was that vigorous and thoughtful people should stop insulting the hoi polloi and start leading them.

In a way it’s an extension of Family as Model for the State; perhaps you could call it Family as Model for a Cognitively Diverse Community. It’s unseemly for parents to mock their children’s ignorance, and most everyone agrees to that. Yet few would so readily agree that it’s wrong for cognitive elites to mock the cognitive rabble.

I’m not saying I agree with Eden’s Thaw, or that it’s even possible for the contemporary masses to be led. They’ve been inoculated against good advice–inoculated by cultural Marxism to believe that binge drinking, unprotected sex, and cultivating ignorance is a great way to rebel against the oppression of people more productive than themselves. (Oppression and productivity being apparently synonymous.)

Today’s vertical class war is Atlas Shrugged in reverse–poor folks refusing to play their role because they are dissatisfied with their share of the pie. More importantly, today’s horizontal class war is educated, intelligent rent-seekers smashing the future of their hated foes, people I would best describe as intelligent, naïve, relatively uneducated producers. In other words, the backstory to Atlas Shrugged.

So anyway, it may too late (by fifty years or so) to really come to grips with this stuff. Best just to try to plan ahead to survive the collapse.

Anyway, now I’ve been verbose myself.

“We’ll just move to the third world” ? There won’t be a “we.”

Auster’s piece shows what children neo-cons are. They would like to believe in American omnipotence; but puzzled by the existence of evil in the universe, they posit Satan.
